Contact Jack

Jack Bentley is a young and upcoming freelance photographer and writer based in South West London. With a BA Honours in Photography and Journalism & News Media he works through more than one platform. He has exhibited photographic work in prestigious spaces such as Gloucester Cathedral and the Truman Brewery in Brick lane, West London. He has experience in fine art photography as well as documentary photography.

    The Gods are Advancing >

    This 1st year University project was based on the motif of truth & fiction and uses real newspaper quotes and religious themes to bring our attention to what we worship and what we call truth. Each photograph exemplifies something of what people in our Western culture treat as a god. The newspaper quotes are out of context meaning they become ironic in some and ambiguous in others. Religion and news are both truth seeking and truth proclaiming institutions but brought together in this way we question both.

    This is a documentary photography project on the life of the nun Sister Mary who is of the Order of the Sacred Heart. She is an amazing women that is passionate in her love for God and in her love for people. She is a teacher as well as a skilled calligraphist.

    These photographs are not the final presentation of the project as a book has been made with each photo accompanied by stories told by Sister Mary of times in her life.

  • Mnemonic and Me >

    Based entirely on the word 'home', this project is how familiarity and memory are the two things that anchor the meaning of home for me. Each photograph is a memory and have all been taken within, roughly, 200 yards of the house I grew up in. Each shot for me is mnemonic as they trigger the memory that took place at that precise spot. The text is for the benefit of the viewer who does not have any familiarity with the place or memory attached. This is also representative of the outsider or stranger looking in to the place we call home.
